St. Joseph’s Hospital Hosts Heart Health Screening and Education Event
02/11/2013

TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 1, 2013) – In recognition of Heart Month, St. Joseph’s Hospital invites the community to start living heart healthy by learning more about their health and how they can live long, heart strong. The hospital is hosting a special Heart Health Fair Saturday, Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event fee is $10 per person, which includes a heart-healthy lunch.

Screenings available during the Heart Health Fair include:

  • Skin cancer check and healthy heart screenings (includes blood pressure, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol and body mass index)
  • Heartsaver CPR is an instructor-led course that teaches adult hands-on CPR and AED use. *This is not a certification course and is not intended for health care professionals.
  • Healthy heart presentations, including Symptoms of Stroke and Heart Attack Prevention

Additional discounted screenings are available, including:

  • CT Heart Score - Detects plaque in arteries, a risk factor for heart disease. It is recommended for age 50 or older, smokers, those with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, irregular heartbeat, or a family history of stroke or heart disease. ($150)
  • Echocardiogram - Ultrasound of the heart that may detect enlargement, motion and valve abnormalities and other potential problems. ($55)
  • EKG - Screens for abnormal heart rhythms. ($20)
  • Carotid Artery Ultrasound - A test shows the carotid arteries, vessels in the neck that provide blood flow to the brain, as well as how much blood flows and how fast it travels through them.  Ultrasound waves are used to make an image of the arteries. This image can be used to find out if there is an abnormality or blockage of the carotid arteries that could lead to stroke. ($20)
  • Peripheral vascular screening - A test that checks circulation in arms and legs to make sure there is no blockage. It is recommended for age 50 or older, smokers, those with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, irregular heartbeat, or a family history of stroke or heart disease. ($20)
  • A1C screening - Provides an analysis of average blood sugar control during the past two to three months to assess your risk of Type 2 Diabetes. ($20)

Special discounted screening prices are available on Feb. 23 only as part of the Heart Health Fair. Registration is required as space is limited. For additional information or to register, please call (813) 443-2034 or click here.
