St. Joseph's Women's Hospital's Shimberg Breast Center has earned national recognition.
St. Joseph's Women's Hospital's Shimberg Breast Center has been named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for mammography, breast ultrasound, ultrasound-guided biopsy, and stereotactic biopsy. This designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR's voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
Centers that are designated as an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence have:
- Voluntarily gone through a rigorous review process to be sure they meet nationally accepted standards
- Employed personnel who are well qualified, through education and certification, to perform and interpret medical images and administer radiation therapy treatments
- Acquired equipment that is appropriate for the testing or treatment of breast cancer
- Met or exceeded quality assurance and safety guidelines
The ACR designation, administered by the ACR's Commission on Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging, recognizes a center's dedication to improving women's health by participating in these rigorous quality assurance programs.
The Comprehensive Breast Program is also accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease. St.Joseph’s Women’s Hospital is proud to be one of the three hospitals in BayCare Health System to receive this accreditation.
