Hospital Observes American Heart Month with Heart Health Check
01/31/2013

In observance of American Heart Month, South Florida Baptist Hospital will host a Heart Health Check, Feb. 15 and 16, 8 a.m. – noon, at the hospital.  The hospital’s Community Health department will extend the following free and low cost screenings:

  • Blood Profiles – Feb. 15 and 16
    •  $20
    • Includes lipid panel, complete metabolic profile and complete blood count.  Results will be mailed.
  • Carotid Ultrasound – Feb. 16
    • $20
    • A test shows the carotid arteries, vessels in the neck that provide blood flow to the brain, as well as how much blood flows and how fast it travels through them.  Ultrasound waves are used to make an image of the arteries.  This image can be used to find out if there is an abnormality or blockage of the carotid arteries that could lead to stroke.
  • CT Heart Score – Feb. 16
    • $150 (Regularly $300).  Detects plaque in arteries, a risk factor for heart disease.  It is recommended for age 50 or older, smokers, those with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, irregular heartbeat, or a family history of stroke or heart disease.
  • Peripheral Vascular Leg Screens – Feb. 16
    • $20
    • A test that checks circulation in arms and legs to make sure there is no blockage.  It is recommended for age 50 or older, smokers, those with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, irregular heartbeat, or a family history of stroke or heart disease.

In addition to the Heart Health Check, the following screenings will be offered:

  • Bone Density – Feb. 15
    • Free
    • A painless heel scan measures bone density.
  • Skin – Feb. 15
    • Free
  • Mammograms – Feb. 16
    • $45
    • A physician order/prescription is required for this screening mammogram.  Patients must bring previous mammography films to screening.  This is not a diagnostic mammogram, only a screening mammogram.
  • Prostate – Feb. 16
    • $20 includes PSA and DRE
    • Blood draw will be completed at screening.  Results will be mailed to the patient.

Registration is required.  Call (813) 644-6721 to register for a screening, or for more information.
