South Florida Baptist Hospital Named a Top Hospital in the Tampa Bay Area 10/28/2009 Hospitalized patients rated South Florida Baptist Hospital one of the top three local hospitals according to a Consumer Reports poll for patient satisfaction. The hospital ranked third among hospitals in the Tampa Bay area, behind BayCare sister hospitals Morton Plant and St. Joseph’s and ahead of Lakeland Regional Medical Center and Brandon Regional Hospital. Consumer Reports surveyed more than 1 million patients who recently were hospitalized in 3,400 hospitals nationwide. The hospitals are evaluated based on the federal government’s Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), which reviews hospitals on the following criteria: Communication with doctors and nurses Pain control How often help was received when needed Cleanliness and quietness of rooms Information about new medications Information about discharge Whether the patient would recommend the hospital to family and friends The patient's overall rating of their experience The top five hospitals on the list are all BayCare Health System facilities including South Florida Baptist, St. Joseph’s, Morton Plant, St. Anthony’s and Mease Countryside.
