South Florida Baptist Hospital Receives ACR Accreditation
09/04/2009
PLANT CITY, Fla., Sept. 2, 2009 — South Florida Baptist Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in CT (computed tomography) and ultrasound as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

“In our ongoing efforts for continuing quality improvement and excellent patient care, South Florida Baptist Hospital Imaging Services received national recognition by obtaining ACR accreditation for CT and ultrasound modalities,” said Michael Hance, director of Radiology for St. Joseph’s Hospitals and South Florida Baptist Hospital. “The hospital already had ACR accreditation in MRI and mammography, and was re-accredited for those modalities during the recent review process.”

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, VA, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

St. Joseph’s Hospitals’ also were recently re-accredited by the ACR in MRI, ultrasound, breast ultrasound, and mammography.

South Florida Baptist Hospital is a 147-bed acute care facility that provides a full range of diagnostic, surgical, therapeutic, women’s and rehabilitative services, and serves Plant City and surrounding areas as a non-denominational, not-for-profit community hospital.
