St. Joseph’s Hospital Opens Congestive Heart Failure Program

TAMPA, Fla. – St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa offers a new program to help congestive heart failure (CHF) patients and prevent unnecessary hospital readmissions.

Together with HealthPoint Medical Group, St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Congestive Heart Failure Care Program offers comprehensive testing to determine and treat the causes of heart failure, along with individualized treatment based on the patient’s stage of CHF.

There is currently no cure for heart failure, but advances have been made to treat patients and improve their overall health and longevity. Complete outpatient care services designed to prevent hospital readmissions include:

  • Medication standardization and optimization 
  • Selective use of appropriate heart devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators 
  • Exercise prescription and rehabilitation therapy 
  • Lifestyle counseling to improve diet and manage smoking habits 
  • Collaboration with renowned heart transplant centers

The head of the CHF Care Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital is Augustine E. Agocha, M.D., Ph.D., and his office is located inside of the Medical Arts Building at 3001 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Dr. Agocha is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease, earning his undergraduate degree in Biological Chemistry, along with his Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Psychology degrees at the State University of New York School of Medicine at Buffalo. With more than 19 years of experience in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, he created and directed successful CHF programs at three other locations before joining St. Joseph’s.
