St. Joseph's Children's Hospital takes a stand for the health and well-being of children and families through our proactive Children's Advocacy Center.
A dedicated team of professionals take pride in the program's efforts to champion children's legislation, raise public awareness about social issues, provide important educational classes and partner with community organizations like Healthy Start.
The Children's Advocacy Center is the lead organization for Safe Kids Tampa.
Here are some of the many programs that benefit children and families:
- Mission Nutrition teaches 4th and 5th graders how to make healthy eating choices
- Germaine the Germ Thing teaches 1st grade children about the importance of hand washing
- Body Safari teaches children about how different body systems work together
- Teddy Bear clinic prepares preschool children for kindergarten immunizations
- Teen Talk for Girls; Teen Talk for Boys
- Child/Infant CPR for parents & caregivers
- Pediatric First Aid for parents & caregivers
- Safe Sitter babysitting class
- Car Seat 101 - educational classes on how to properly install a child safety seat and distribution classes for families in need of a child safety seat
- Shaken Baby Syndrome prevention education
- Parents T.A.L.K. - a parent's support group
- ZAP Asthma - Childhood asthma prevention program focusing on asthma, how it effects you and your child, the most common triggers of asthma and simple ways to remove those triggers from their home
- Community education on physical activity, childhood immunizations, RSV, Rotavirus, Healthy Kid Insurance, child abuse prevention, home safety and gun safety.
