The Safety Store at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital
Each year more than 3 million children ages 14 and under are treated in emergency centers throughout the US for accidental injuries that occur in the home and more than 2,000 of these children die as a result of their injuries. Safety experts estimate that 90 percent of these injuries are preventable.
In an effort to reduce the number of preventable injuries in the Tampa Bay area, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital has opened The Safety Store, the first hospital-based safety store in the state of Florida. The Safety Store provides a comfortable environment for families to shop, learn and ask questions about how to keep children safe. Low-cost injury-prevention products available include smoke alarms, first aid kits, bike helmets, car seats, childproofing kits, cabinet locks, safety gates and more.
