Heart disease and stroke is the leading killer of men and women in the United States. Learning about your personal risk for heart disease and stroke is an important step in helping lower your risk. Heart Care: What to Ask Your Doctor

Getting answers to these important questions will give you vital information about your health and what you can do to improve it. You may want to bring this list to your doctor's office during your next visit. We will take the time to talk to you and answer any questions you may have.

Questions to Ask Your Doctor
  1. Am I at risk for heart disease or stroke?
What is my blood pressure? What does it mean for me, and what do I need to do about it?

What are my cholesterol numbers? (These include total
cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides.) What do they mean for me,
and what do I need to do about them?
What are my “body mass index” and waist measurement? Do they indicate that I need to lose weight for my health?
What is my blood sugar level, and does it mean I’m at risk
for diabetes?
  6. How often should I return for heart health checkups?
  7. How much physical activity do I need to help protect my heart?
Based on my history and risk factors, what can I do to lower my risk of heart disease or stroke?
  9. What are the warning signs and symptoms of heart disease or a heart attack? 
10. What should I do if I think I am having a heart attack?
11. What are the warning signs and symptoms of stroke?
12. What should I do if I think I am having a stroke?
