The Department of Pharmacy at St. Joseph's Hospital is devoted to producing the finest clinical pharmacists and advancing the profession of pharmacy. The Pharmacy Practice Residency Program provides residents with experience and training in acute care, drug information, therapeutic policy development and practice management.

The Department of Pharmacy has clinical pharmacists in a variety of fields including hematology/oncology, cardiology, critical care, surgery, nutritional support, emergency medicine, women's health, internal medicine, pediatrics and therapeutic policy. As a member of the health care team, the resident assumes responsibility and accountability for safe and appropriate drug therapy and efficient delivery of patient care.

St. Joseph’s Department of Pharmacy is responsible for medication dispensing and clinical pharmacy services for approximately 850 acute care beds with an average daily census in excess of 80%. The Department of Pharmacy consists of more than 90 team members including 45 clinical pharmacists, 45 pharmacy technicians, administrative and support personnel and Pharmacy Practice Residents. Clinical pharmacists serve as resources to team members, provide patient care and educate students, team members and other health professionals.

Clinical pharmacists are actively involved in medication order review, therapeutic monitoring, patient care planning and management, student and resident preceptorship and interactive relationships with the health care team. Pharmacy technicians provide an integral component of the drug distribution system through the use of an automated point of use dispensing system.
