Our Commitment in Action
St. Joseph's Cancer Institute has established community partnerships with agencies such as the American Cancer Society, Florida Prostate Cancer Network, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, LifePath Hospice and Camp Good Days & Special Times to help promote cancer awareness and education.
Community Outreach in 2002
- Provided 553 cancer screenings for colorectal, prostate and skin cancer.
- Educated more than 600 people on the prevention and early detection of skin, colorectal, prostate and breast cancer via videos, brochures and lectures.
- Provided more than 1,000 sunscreen packets to promote skin cancer prevention and awareness.
- Provided 66 support programs, reaching nearly 325 people.
- Provided eight educational programs for cancer patients and their family.
- Facilitated more than 20 of the American Cancer Society's "Look Good, Feel Better" and "Man to Man" support groups.
- Introduced the new, monthly Hispanic Breast Cancer Support Group for Spanish-speaking cancer patients.
Sponsorship and Fundraisers
- Cattle Barons' Ball - St. Joseph's Cancer Institute was a sponsor at the American Cancer Society's annual event to raise money to fight cancer and provide services to cancer patients and their families.
- Light the Night Walk - St. Joseph's Cancer Institute was a sponsor at this Leukemia & Lymphoma Society event that raises money to fight cancer and provide services to cancer patients and their families.
- Reach to Recovery Fashion Show and Luncheon - St. Joseph's Cancer Institute was a sponsor at this annual American Cancer Society event that raises money to fight breast cancer.
- African American Men's Health Forum - St. Joseph's Cancer Institute was a sponsor at this Florida Prostate Cancer Network event that increases cancer education, awareness, prevention and screenings to African American men in the community.
