Valvular Disease

Keeping It Flowing
About five million Americans are diagnosed with heart valve problems every year. The heart's four valves act like gates that open and close tightly to keep blood flowing in the heart in one direction. When these valves do not perform properly, patients are at risk for a variety of problems.

The Heart Institute is recognized nationwide as a leader in treating valvular heart disease, including valvular stenosis, valvular regurgitation, valve artesia, mitral valve prolapse and more. When medications alone cannot control the problem, our surgeons are experts with 25 years of experience in procedures to correct these problems, including:

  • Mitral valve repair
  • Valve replacement with either biologic or artificial heart valves
  • Small incision procedures for heart valve problems
