Employee Assistance Program
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a valuable resource for employees and supervisors. It is estimated that annually 10 to 15 percent of a workforce experience personal problems, which can cost an employer an average of 25 percent of the employee’s salary. No one is immune from experiencing personal problems, which can include:
- Marital/Family Relationship
- Emotional Stress
- Alcohol/Drug Abuse
- Financial/Legal
Many times personal problems impact the workplace and can be extremely costly to both the employer and the employee. Some of the costs are obvious, others are hidden, such as:
- Industrial Accidents
- Absenteeism
- High Rate of Medical and Behavioral Health Costs
- Greater Turnover
- Theft
- Poor Morale
- Lower Productivity
A comprehensive EAP is effective by providing prevention, early intervention and brief, solution-oriented counseling. This saves more money than immediately accessing the benefit program or waiting until a problem has become more serious. Most EAPs also offer services that benefit eligible dependents. The behavioral health problems of family members have a direct effect on the well-being and job performance of the employee.
EAP benefits can:
- Reduce Health Care/Insurance Costs
- Reduce Workers’ Compensation Claims
- Resolve Employer/Employee Conflicts
- Increased Productivity
- Coordinate with your Benefits Department and Insurance Provider
