Mobile Mammography
Since one out of every eight women will get breast cancer in her lifetime, The Breast Center at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital strives to have the latest and best resources available to screen, diagnose and treat this disease. Our mobile unit, Women on the Move, makes monitoring your breast health even easier. Women on the Move brings mammography services right to your company, neighborhood, women’s club, senior center, church – anywhere that busy women gather.
Key benefits to employers:
- Less absenteeism and increased productivity due to screening efficiency. With the mobile mammography unit, women do not have to miss at least 2 hours of work to go to a facility for this important screening, it comes to them. Most screenings only take the woman away from her work area for 20 minutes or less.
- Bringing the mobile mammography bus to an organization is FREE. The employees’ insurance plans will be billed accordingly as they would if the women came to The Breast Center at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital. There is no additional fee/charge for this service if at least 80% of the available appointments are utilized.
- All patients are pre-registered so there is no hassle on the day of the screening. No one from the business has to do anything on the day of the event.
What is required of the corporate site?
A designated contact person within the organization will:
- Meet with a member of our team for approximately 30 minutes to go over the registration requirements and process
- Be responsible for “getting the word out” within the organization (through email, flyers, announcements or other internal communication tools).
- Serve as the registrar for the event (distributes registration packets, ensures completeness of packets and collects them from the participants by the designated pick-up date).
If less than 80% of the available appointment slots are utilized, a $200 site booking fee may be imposed at the discretion of The Breast Center at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital.
What makes the Women on the Move Mobile Mammography Service different?
- Our personal focus on women, our dedicated staff and the best in breast imaging technology. We use the same specialized technologists and technology that we use at the Breast Center at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital.
- The mobile unit was designed specifically for women. The unit provides comfort, complete privacy and confidentiality, and is run by an all-female staff.
- Each patient is given individual attention and is not rushed through the procedure. At the end of the visit, each patient is given a pink carnation as a small token of appreciation for choosing The Breast Center at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital.
- There is no reservation or site booking fee if at least 80% of the available slots are booked at least one week in advance.
- We do not exclude any major health plans.
- We have dedicated radiologists specializing in breast imaging services interpreting the screening mammograms.
- All screening mammograms are read with the benefit of Computer Aided Detection technology. The Breast Center at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital was the first facility in Hillsborough County to integrate this technology, which is proven to detect more breast cancer at an earlier stage. It serves as a second read in addition to the expertise of the radiologist.
- Should a woman need additional diagnostic testing, the mobile unit is backed by a full range of diagnostic imaging, minimally invasive and surgical biopsy services, and surgical and oncology services through The Breast Center at St. Joseph’s Women’ s Hospital and the nationally recognized St. Joseph’s Hospital Cancer Institute.
- We offer flexible scheduling options. While we will work to meet the specific needs of our clients, our typical full-day events are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and serve 20 women. Partial-day events are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and can serve 14 women.
Reservation and Holding Dates
We request that single day event reservations be made four to six weeks in advance to allow for optimal availability and enough time for women to register for the event. Events to be held in October (breast cancer awareness month) should be booked at least two months in advance. It is never too early to reserve dates.
Multi-Day events can be scheduled. Please reserve the mobile mammography unit at least six to eight weeks in advance if consecutive days are needed to support the event. Please contact Susan Toussaint in Business Health Services at (727) 461-8534 to make corporate reservations.
Free Screenings
If corporate clients have members of their team without health insurance, we do offer a free breast cancer screening program. Please contact Sharon Tollin at (813) 872-3715 for more information on eligibility requirements.
Media Opportunities
Media opportunities may be available for those organizations who are interested in promoting their “focus on women.” Various media outlets are interested in showcasing employee-friendly organizations, and our public relations department can help coordinate this exposure upon request.
Educational Services
Breast Health educational services are available in conjunction with a mobile screening event or as a separate service. We have a certified Breast Health Specialist (she is also an advanced registered nurse practitioner) who provides educational materials, presentations and small group programs to members of the community and local businesses upon request. Please contact Sharon Tollin at (813)872-3715.
