St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital knows that a complicated pregnancy can be both upsetting and stressful. That’s why our 24-bed High-Risk Maternity Unit is dedicated to taking care of women experiencing health challenges during pregnancy, premature labor or similar conditions that require hospital bed rest. This special unit offers a home-like environment equipped with comfortable amenities.
The unit is staffed with physicians and nurses trained to focus on your special needs. Other members of our health care team available to you during your stay include social services, pastoral care, dietitians, lactation consultants and respiratory, physical and occupational therapists. Perinatologists (physicians with advanced high-risk pregnancy training) are available 24 hours a day for consultations with your primary care physician. And neonatologists from our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) are also available to assist families with information regarding newborns with exceptional needs.
Other services available to high-risk moms include:
- Music therapy to enhance sense of well-being
- Massage therapy from a licensed massage therapist
- In-room VCR
- Reading materials and videos for education and entertainment arrangements for your baby shower, birthday party, holiday meal or special occasions if needed.
Visitors are welcome daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. For your comfort, visitation is limited to two people at a time. Children may also visit during the normal visiting hours, but must be accompanied by an adult other than yourself. If you wish, your support person may spend the night with you as well.
