Cancer & Blood Diseases


Caring for children with cancer and blood disorders is the life work of the Pediatric Cancer Team led by nationally known expert Cameron Tebbi, M.D. Children receive diagnosis and treatment in a team approach with numerous health care professionals lending their expertise:
  • Pediatric oncology/hematology physician specialists
  • Pediatric nurses and nurse practitioners
  • Certified child life specialists
  • Pediatric social workers
  • Chaplains
  • Pediatric radiation oncologists
  • Pediatric research nurse
  • Occupational, physical and speech therapists
  • Audiologists

Inpatient Program
Pediatric patients with cancer or blood disorders are admitted to child-friendly St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, where large, colorful rooms are grouped in small clusters according to the child's age. Should acute care become necessary, a top-notch pediatric intensive care unit is available with full-time board certified pediatric intensivist physicians. Specially trained pediatric nurses provide around-the-clock care.

Outpatient Care
A busy outpatient hematology/oncology clinic provides ongoing treatment for children in a friendly, family-centered environment on the first floor of the St. Joseph's Cancer Institute.

Radiation Therapy
The Fred J. Woods Radiation Therapy Center offers state-of-the-art medical technology for the treatment of cancer. A full-time pediatric radiation oncologist and a team of pediatric radiation therapists provide care for children.

Support for Children & Families
Children, adolescent, sibling & parent support groups
Special camps for children and teens with cancer
Social work and pastoral care support for families
Full-time hospital home-bound teacher and on-site school

Pediatric Cancer Research Laboratory
A highly skilled research team led by Dr. Tebbi conducts laboratory testing for clinical research studies and basic science research related to children's hematology and oncology.
