Primary prevention of Heart Disease

GUIDE TO RISK REDCUTION:

LIFESTYLE FACTORS:

  • SMOKING - Goal: Complete cessation; no environmental exposure
  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITY - Goal: 30 min of moderate-intensity physical activity on most or all days of the week
  • NUTRITON - Goal: Overall healthy eating
  • WEIGHT MANAGEMENT - Goal: Achieve and maintain desirable weight
                 Body Mass Index (BMI) 18.5 - 24.9kg
                 Waist circumference < 35 inches in women
                                                        < 40 inches in men
  • PSYCHOSOCIAL FACTORS - Goal: Positive adaptation to stressful situations; improved quality of life; maintain or establish social connections
