St. Joseph-s Hospitals have a rich tradition of providing community benefit services designed to improve the health of the community as well as the health of individuals. As a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, St. Joseph-s Hospitals Foundation secures philanthropic support to benefit St. Joseph-s Hospital, St. Joseph-s Women-s Hospital, St. Joseph-s Children-s Hospital of Tampa, and for the soon to be built St. Joseph-s Hospital North.

The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of community-based corporate and civic leaders. Foundation activities include securing and stewarding grants, private and corporate gifts, and conducting special events to build and enhance clinical facilities, provide life-saving equipment and support programs to better serve each patient-s medical, spiritual and emotional needs. The Foundation also holds, manages and administers these gifts and the organization-s assets.

Representatives of the Foundation adhere to HIPAA standards and regulations, and do not sell or trade confidential donor information with any other organization. Rivero, Gordimer & Company P.A. conducts an independent annual audit of the Foundations financial position in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the United States.

In the 2006 calendar year, the St. Joseph-s Hospitals Foundation raised $1,461,707 in support of our hospital-s programs and services. During this same timeframe, the Foundation funded the following patient needs totaling $1,253,244 to ensure that our mission of supporting St. Joseph-s Hospitals is accomplished:

St. Joseph-s Women-s Hospital
The Foundation allocated $297,750 to enhance breast cancer detection through upgrades to its stereotactic breast biopsy system, purchase additional fetal monitors in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and provide education and screening for heart disease–the number one killer of women – through our Women-s Healthy Heart Initiative.

 
 

St. Joseph-s Hospital
The Foundation allocated $418,806 to fund brachytherapy equipment for the Perry Cancer Institute, purchase Acuson technology for its Heart Institute Electrophysiology Lab and Advanced Center for Atrial Fibrillation, provide eight scholarships that support and encourage people to pursue nursing professions, and aid St. Joseph-s Pastoral Care in delivering spiritual and emotional assistance in both English and Spanish to patients and families.

 
St. Joseph-s Children-s Hospital
The Foundation allocated $536,688 to fund research for a pediatric cancer, partnered with Rotary International-s Gift of Life program to help save lives of underprivileged children from around the world in need of cardiac surgery, replaced ventilators for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, supported rehabilitation for children with neuromuscular problems at its Motion Analysis Center, and purchased a Lightforce Gold Laser used in Pediatric Otolaryngology.
