What's keeping you
up?
It is estimated that more than 50 million adults in the United
States experience some kind of sleep disturbance. Until recently, little was
known about the mysteries of sleep and sleep disorders. Few diagnostic tests and
effective treatments were available. Consequently, many people suffered for
years without proper evaluation and care. How much sleep should an adult get?
Sleep experts recommend 7-9 hours a night, but most adults in the United States
fall slightly short averaging 6.9 hours each night.
The most common sleep disorders include:
- Insomnia: inadequate quality or quantity of sleep
- Snoring: abnormal breathing and sleep disruptions
- Sleep Apnea: serious breathing disruptions
- Restless Leg Syndrome: neurological movement disorder
- Narcolepsy: sudden involuntary, excessive daytime sleepiness
But now, thanks to
advancements in medical research and technology, there are facilities equipped
to uncover the sleep disorders that disturb you at night.
Treatment depends on the diagnosis and the severity of the
illness. Our center features a multidisciplinary team of neurologists,
pulmonologists, and technologists who observe sleep behavior and collect the
data that will be analyzed to help diagnose your condition.
