Cleft Program

Cleft lip/palate and other craniofacial anomalies are birth defects that occur very early in pregnancy. A child born with a cleft or craniofacial anomaly is likely to require several types of services: surgery, dental/orthodontic care, speech therapy. These services need to be provided in a coordinated manner over a period of years.

Often, parents also have questions regarding coping skills, and promoting self esteem. We have resources available to assist you.

How Appointments Work
In a unique effort to minimize patients- visit time and anxiety, the complete team of specialists are present during patient exams. Family members are present during the decision-making process, and are encouraged to ask questions and be “part of
the team.”

If any other diagnostic tests are needed (CT scan, hearing tests, X-rays, blood work), these can also be arranged. We ask parents to plan for approximately 1-1/2 hours for their child-s appointment. Our program coordinators are here to help you. If you have questions or concerns, please call (813) 870-4565.
