St. Joseph's Children's Hospital was
one of five charities selected to share the proceeds from the 2008 Outback
Steakhouse Pro-Am. The event was held April 14-20 at TPC Tampa Bay in
Lutz. Since its inception 20 years ago, this tournament has contributed
over $7.6 million to Tampa Bay area charities.
"The Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am continues to work hard to build a better tournament in order to build a better community", said Tournament Chairman, Jack Suarez. "We share in the vision of these organizations that serve our community and we are honored to help make the Tampa Bay area a great place to live."
St. Joseph's Children's Hospital will use the
proceeds to help further expand and renovate its Children's
Hematology/Oncology Center, a busy outpatient clinic that provides ongoing
treatment to kids battling cancer in the Tampa Bay area.
"This generous gift will
allow us to create a warmer, child-friendly
environment that addresses the special needs, both medical and emotional, of
children and their families as they fight cancer," said President of St.
Joseph?s Hospitals Foundation, Deborah Kotch.
In addition to new waiting
areas and playrooms, the renovation will create larger, private treatment areas
that will bring additional comfort during difficult times.
"We are honored to provide resources to help renovate
this clinic, which is often a second home to most of the families battling this
serious illness," said Tournament Director Amy Hawk. "We could not do this
without the Tampa Bay community, Champions Tour professionals, sponsors,
volunteers, and celebrities who continuously support this tournament."
